Here at Inkaterra, we’ve got something to ROAR about; we’re delighted to announce an exciting new offering at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, offering our guests a unique insight into the day-to-day existence of the real life Paddington Bears.
conservation_15 With next year set to mark the 60th anniversary of the internationally loved Peruvian bear, we are celebrating the Michael Bond classic with the launch of our new Andean Spectacled Bear Programme.

Families and Paddington Bear fans alike, can enjoy a three-night programme where they can get up close and personal with the real life Paddington Bear at our Inkaterra Spectacled Bear Project. Shadowing an Inkaterra Explorer Guide and expert Bear Keeper, guests will visit the rehabilitation centre, captivity and semi-liberty areas. Not only can they can learn more about the project, but they can also assist our keepers with the cleaning, monitoring and feeding of the bears – sadly, no marmalade sandwiches allowed!

We will also be providing our guests with a bear-friendly welcome pack, containing a greeting from our founder, Jose Koechlin. We are also including a copy of “Coco, The Andean Bear” story and a special one Sol coin, uniquely engraved with an Andean Bear from the Inkaterra Spectacled Bear Project in a bid to raise awareness around the endangered species in Peru.
Andean Bear at Inkaterra Machu Picchu For the little ones, the Inkaterra Explorer Kit will educate them on the wonders of the Andean Cloud forest and inspire them to embark on an adventure, just like Paddington Bear.
The Andean Bear package cost starts from US$1,365, price per guest based on double occupancy and includes three nights at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel with breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea time. A three hour guided tour of Machu Picchu citadel with a certified bilingual Inkaterra Explorer Guide and welcome kit are also included.

Conservation at Home | Help save the rainforest

Did you know, 814 bird species have been registered within the grounds of Inkaterra Hotels and areas of influence? That’s equivalent to 93% of Costa Rica’s total bird diversity!

But, here in the Peruvian Amazon, deforestation is rife, and Inkaterra are working hard to conserve the habitat of native birds through various sustainability projects. Fancy shaking your tail feathers, and lending a hand? Believe it or not, there are plenty of things you can do at home to help fight deforestation and save the rainforest, from educating the people around you, to buying ethically sourced produce.

Support indigenous communities

Not only does buying ethically sourced food, arts and crafts give you an opportunity to learn more about the culture they originate from, but it also provides an income and way of life to communities, not just in the rainforest, but around the world.

At Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica, we’ve been busy creating an outpost to support the local community, offering them an environment in which to make a steady income. The newly built Maloca acts as a marketplace, from which local artisan products handcrafted by the community can be traded. Read more, here.

Reduce your carbon footprint

COemissions are growing uncontrollably, and this is due to the combustion of fossil fuels used by vehicles and industry. It is also emitted by forest fires and volcanic eruptions. Habitat destruction trends interact with climate change, and climate change puts the rainforests in danger.

So, how can we help? Reducing our dependence on oil – whether it’s by cycling to work or school, eating locally sourced food or making sure you recycle plastics and other household items – is one of the best ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

Inkaterra Asociación (ITA) has been preserving 15,000 hectares of forests in the Southern Amazon of Peru. This contributes to carbon sequestration, which neutralises carbon emissions anthropogenic activities related to ecotourism in Madre de Dios, Cusco, Machu Picchu and Cabo Blanco.

Fundraise for the forest

Whether it’s playing a concert, hosting a bake sale, or selling unwanted clothes online, there are loads of fun ways to fundraise. Once you’ve collected your cash, you can contribute towards Inkaterra’s crucial conservation projects – including the Andean Bear Rescue Centre, protection of the rainforests and  education for conservation – using this link.

Spread the word

Perhaps the most effective, yet one of the simplest, ways to raise awareness for conservation, buying ethically sourced products and living sustainably is through social media. Cycling to work? Instagram your view – it’s bound to be better than that of those stuck in a traffic jam, and might even persuade people to take to the pedals! Hosting a fundraising event? Tweet about it!

Inkaterra’s charming new wine cellar – a place for every occasion

You’re sitting round a beautiful wooden table. Andean fabrics, exposed stone walls and an impressively stocked wine rack surrounds you. In front, a wall of glass looks out onto the dense Andean Cloud forest, impressing Andean mountains and turbulent Vilcanota river. This is what guests can expect from Inkaterra’s new wine cellar, which opens for private bookings this month.

The charming candle-lit room, located at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, houses more than 90 wine labels, including Bonarda (Douce noir) (AR), Luna Negra SP) as well as Inkaterra’s house wines, produced at the Pulenta Estate in Mendoza (AR), among others.

The Chef’s Table experience offers guests an authentic tasting menu, prepared in front of them by the hotel’s chef and served by a private butler. Whether it’s a romantic dinner for two, a family gathering or a get together for friends, the Inkaterra Cellar provides an intimate setting for all occasions.

Wine enthusiasts can visit the cellar with the hotel’s Sommelier to discover some of the smells and flavours from the wine list. The wine tasting session explores a unique selection of South America’s finest wines and guests can toast their Machu Picchu adventure whilst looking out onto the spanning views of the surrounding forest and mountains.

Café Inkaterra has been named one of the 10 best restaurants in the Cusco area

We are excited to share with you the news that Café Inkaterra, located a stone’s throw away from Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, was included in the Premios Summum 2017. The eighth edition of the annual gastronomic event named Café Inkaterra one of the ten best restaurants in the Cusco region. To our delight, Café Inkaterra was the only restaurant in Machu Picchu Pueblo to be included in this category.

Peruvian food is emblematic of the history and traditions in Peru.  At Inkaterra we’re excited to see our country becoming increasingly recognised for its visionary cuisine. The diversity of the culinary masterpieces are reflective of our vibrant culture and have secured us with a firm place on the international culinary scene.

This year around 5,000 people voted for their culinary favourites in 22 categories that encompassed gastronomic excellence, outstanding chefs and quality of service. Menus were also taken into consideration, as was the service in the restaurant.  With an initial 1,000 restaurant nominees, the number was reduced to only 300, which were then put to the vote in their respective categories.

Café Inkaterra not only offers a dining experience but it is also a destination in itself, resting under the traditional Amazonian palm-thatched roof, it overlooks the Vilcanota River. The rise of social media influenced travel

Social media has been dramatically shaping the travel industry. Whereas in previous years we may have flicked through a travel brochure, we now open our Instagram app to pick our next travel destination. With over 600 million users it is no surprise that we flock to Instagram for inspiration, easily rivalling the 175 million users on Pinterest, also a favoured platform for the wanderlust-bucket-list. It is easy, accessible content that lets us travel across the world through our phone screens.

Social media lends itself to the idea that we can always do better, look better and travel better. Schofields Insurance recently spoke to over 1000 adults aged 18 – 33 (a study conducted in 2017) about how they choose their holiday destination. A staggering 40.1% said the leading incentive for choice was how ‘instagrammable’ a place was, whilst the least popular was opportunities to sightsee.

Fortunately at Inkaterra we are very photogenic on numerous different levels; in particular our Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel located in the Cloud Forest of Machu Picchu near the world heritage site of Machu Picchu, declared one of the New 7 Wonders of the Modern World.  Studies have concurred that Machu Picchu is one of the most instagrammed destinations in the world, but we count the cobbled streets of Cusco and our canopy Amazon walkway just as Instagram-worthy. Lest we forget our own architecture and interiors, all of which are designed to reflect and accentuate the local history.  There isn’t a cosy reading nook or a charming cabaña that doesn’t deserve a photograph.

Through Instagram we visually communicate with audiences and this is why we enjoy Instagram or, in our case, Inkagram. At Inkaterra we use Instagram as a platform primarily to showcase our properties and offerings. We love that we can instantly update our followers with day-to-day news via a stream of imagery.
