The Bio-Orchard at Amazon Field Station byInkaterra aims to conserve the most diverse sample of edible and medicinal crops native to the Amazon, nurtured with agricultural techniques from the region.

Aiming to rescue ancestral knowledge on native foods and the use of sustainable agroforestry (such as drip irrigation for efficient water consumption), the Bio-Orchard educates on sowing and harvest of vegetables, aromatic herbs and tropical fruits; the use of organic fertilizers and natural pesticides; and the making of organic compost.

Growing six types of hot pepper (Capsicum spp.), cocona (Solanum sessiliflorum), sacha cilantro (Eryngium foetidum), uncucha (Xanthosoma sagittifolium), maxixe (Cucumis anguria), among others, this initiative raises awareness among local communities to underscore their gastronomic identity, as well as to improve their nutrition and to explore economic opportunities through sustainable entrepreneurship.
