Jose Koechlin

Chairman & CEO

Chairman and CEO of Inkaterra, José Koechlin pioneers ecotourism in Peru since 1975, generating sustainable development via research for conservation. Mr. Koechlin is also chairman or board member of various conservation entities. Founder of the NGO Inkaterra Asociación (ITA) in 2001, since 1978 Mr. Koechlin has sponsored inventories of flora and fauna within Inkaterra grounds in the Amazon Basin, as on birds (747 sp.), ant species in Tambopata (362 sp.) and native orchids in Machu Picchu (375 sp., world’s largest collection according to the American Orchid Society). He sponsored the study to create the first Marine Reserve in Peru. Co-producer of Werner Herzog’s films Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972) and Fitzcarraldo (1982, also author), and Les Blank’s documentary Burden of Dreams (1982). Co-author of Reserva Cusco Amazónico, Peru: Biological Investigations, Conservation and Ecotourism (1991), and Orchids at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel (2007). He is also discoverer of the Purification Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

José Purisaca Puicón

General Manager

Biologist with studies at San Marcos National University, José Purisaca has been committed to environmental conservation since 1980. He joined Inkaterra in 1991 and, in 2001, founded Inkaterra Asociación (ITA) with founder and CEO José Koechlin. His vast experience focuses on ecotourism, activity that allowed him to be part of projects with World Bank, United Nations, Global Environment Fund (GEF) and National Geographic Society.

 

Carlos Manuel Bisso Vizquerra

Administration Manager

Colonel of the Peruvian Air Force, specialized in Air Defense, Manuel Bisso has a postgraduate degree in Science Management and a Master’s Degree in Management. Over 30 years of professional experience enhances Manuel as a professional with skills to perform and assume responsibility tasks. His expertise is key to the logistics management of the diverse initiatives at Inkaterra Asociación.

Marco Huamán

Head of Ecology, Conservation and Environment (Cusco)

Biologist with studies at the San Antonio Abad University of Cusco. Marco is committed to the conservation of the global environment, while performing environmental control such as the production of biodiversity to reduce pollution of the waters of the Vilcanota River, as well as the cultivation of organic products create added value through natural resources.

Noé Huaraca

Bird Program Coordinator

Nature and wildlife lover, Noé studied Ecotourism at the National Amazonian University of Madre de Dios (UNAMAD). Since then, his interest in learning more about the fauna increased and birdwatching became one of his favorite activities. He has been actively working with birds and conservation projects since 2014. His sympathy for avifauna led him to become a bird bander, focusing on species in the Amazon rainforest of Southeastern Peru. He is currently in charge of the Bird Monitoring Program at Inkaterra Asociacion and directs the Bird Banding Station.
