Conferences > Botanical Expedition

We invite all attendees at the 7th Scientific Conference on Andean Orchids to sign up for a fascinating botanical expedition to Machu Picchu guided by one of the world’s most respected and authoritative voices on orchids, Tom Mirenda.

Columnist for the American Orchid Society and a leader of the OGCN (Orchid Garden Conservation Network), Tom has been growing orchids professionally for over three decades. He has travelled the world to find both wild and cultivated orchids, and recently co-authored “The Book of Orchids” with collaborators from Kew. Tom curated the orchid collection at the Smithsonian for 17 years as their Orchid Collection Specialist, producing annual educational exhibits for millions of visitors. He organizes orchid trips through his travel network “Trips with Tom” from his idyllic home in Hawaii.

From November 30-December 3, right after the Conference, Tom Mirenda will give a masterclass on orchid observation while visiting majestic landscapes of the Peruvian Andes, including the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

Offering special rates at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba and Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, you will explore during blooming season Inkaterra’s orchid trails in the cloud forest, hosting 372 registered species – the world’s largest native orchid collection in its natural setting, according to the American Orchid Society.

To be considered:

  • Limited capacity.
  • It is necessary to be registered in the 7th Andean Orchid Conference in order to be part of the Botanical Expedition.
