“Peru, Country of Orchids”
Discover Peruvian Orchids at the 7th Scientific Conference on Andean Orchids

Peru, a natural treasure of richness and diversity, stands out as one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Its territory hosts an incredible variety of life, with over 25,000 species of flora, including an impressive 30% of endemic species. However, if there’s something that truly captivates and distinguishes Peruvian flora, it is the marvelous orchids. With more than 2,200 identified species and an estimated total of up to 3,000 due to its diverse microclimates, Peru becomes a paradise for enthusiasts of these exquisite flowers.

Over the past two decades, Peruvian orchids have been the subject of numerous research efforts and scientific explorations. Studies conducted in the valleys, High Andes, and the Amazon Basin have confirmed the richness and splendor of these species. In recognition of these achievements, Peru has been chosen as the host country for the 7th Scientific Conference on Andean Orchids, a prestigious event that will be held in this country for the first time.

The Scientific Conference on Andean Orchids, initiated in 2005, is the most important academic event in the Andean region dedicated to this specialty. This region is renowned for its mega-biodiversity, which includes some of the most awe-inspiring orchid species on the planet. This event brings together the international community of researchers, conservation professionals, cultivators, and enthusiasts to promote the latest advances in scientific studies and conservation efforts of native orchids.

The 7th Scientific Conference on Andean Orchids will be held in Peru from November 27th to 29th, in the auditorium of San Antonio Abad University of Cusco. This event will address various topics related to orchid diversity, systematics, ecology, conservation, and horticulture.

Furthermore, from November 30th to December 3rd, after the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a masterclass on orchid observation led by Tom Mirenda. With special rates available at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba and Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, attendees will be able to explore Inkaterra’s orchid gardens during the blooming season. These gardens host the world’s largest collection of native orchids in their natural habitat, according to the American Orchid Society, with a total of 372 species. Additionally, attendees will have the privilege of visiting one of the New Seven Wonders of the World: the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
