Sport Fishing Magazine: Cabo Blanco, “The Greatest Big-Game Fishing the World Has Ever Known”

A passionate chronicle by Doug Olander with a fascinating photo archive brings back to life Cabo Blanco’s golden age, when the Northern coast of Peru became the world-known sport fishing mecca. The hidden fishing cove was a cult destination in the 1930s, visited only by a few adventurous anglers. Until August 1953, when the game fishing community set eyes on Cabo Blanco after Louisiana oilman Alfred Glassell, Jr. landed the all-tackle world record – a 1560lb black marlin – on board the Miss Texas. “While 1953 was the year of the colossus in black marlin fishing, 1954 would be Cabo Blanco’s banner year for sheer numbers of granders, with 16 fish between 1,005 and 1,500-plus pounds taken,” says Olander.
