The PURE Awards have now been running for two years, discovering and rewarding inspirational and experimental travellers from the community. This year the PURE Awards ceremony took place at the Palais des Congrès Marrakech. All those who attended had the chance to cast their vote.

The Inkaterra Asociación (ITA) was shortlisted in the Conservation & Sustainability category due to the creation of the Andean Bear Rescue Center, in the grounds of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.  This conservation project is aiming to rescue, rehabilitate and raise awareness of bears found in inadequate captivity conditions, helping develop breeding and reinsertion programs while facilitating research and educating the local community.

José Koechlin, founder and president of Inkaterra was shortlisted in the category for ‘Contribution to Experiential Travel’ and was commended for his inspiring development of eco-friendly tourism in Peru. The awards recognised all his achievements from leading various tourism and conservation boards to co-producing two films featuring Machu Picchu and the Amazon, helping to start the first wave of tourism in Peru.
