RECORD-BREAKING EXHIBITION
MACHU PICCHU AND THE GOLDEN EMPIRES OF PERU
OPENS APRIL 16 IN PARIS

Soon after captivating the biggest audience to ever visit the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Florida (USA), the record-breaking international exhibition Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou (Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru) will start its European tour at La Cité d’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Palais de Chaillot) in Paris, France.

Opening April 16, Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou is a fascinating journey through time to discover a culture that thrived in a mystical world. This sweeping exhibition spans 3,000 years across the ancient cultures of Peru, rivaled only by Ancient Egypt in longevity, and by the Roman Empire in engineering.

A groundbreaking event produced by World Heritage Exhibitions – the makers of “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs” in alliance with Inkaterra Asociación, Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou is the largest exhibition to showcase Peru’s cultural legacy and extraordinary biodiversity.

This all-new, immersive museum experience will transport visitors from the cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere to the jewel of the Inca Empire: the city of Machu Picchu. The exhibition boasts a stunning selection of 192 artifacts from the Larco Museum – one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world. Additionally, visitors will be amazed by the first-ever VR tour of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, designed with cutting-edge technologies.

The New York Times hails Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou, “staged like a theatrical production with dramatic lighting, sparkling crystal glass display cases and a virtual reality feature that takes you on a swooping, plunging, magic carpet ride over the roofless ruins of the Inca citadel. In an interview with NYT, Chicago Art Institute curator Andrew James Hamilton considered Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou as “the crème de la crème… the kind of works that museums around the world are trying constantly to get on loan.”

Facing the Eiffel Tower, la Cité de L’Architecture et du Patrimoine is located in the heart of Paris at the iconic Palais de Chaillot, built for the Exposition Internationale of 1937. Being the initial headquarters for NATO, in the Palais de Chaillot, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December 1948. Now hosting France’s most iconic monuments, La Cité de L’Architecture will honor Machu Picchu – one of History’s greatest and most enigmatic architectural marvels.

At the exhibition’s gift shop, visitors will receive special rates and promotions to stay at the Inkaterra lodges. “Machu Picchu et les trésors du Pérou is the most innovative way to welcome travelers from all around the world to explore our many wonders”, says exhibition partner José Koechlin.

INKATERRA FOUNDER JOSÉ KOECHLIN ELECTED
PRESIDENT OF THE PERUVIAN HOTEL SOCIETY, 2022-2024

Hospitality entrepreneur and pioneer of ecotourism in Peru, José Koechlin von Stein has been re-elected president of the Peruvian Hotel Society from 2022-2024, when the institution will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Established in September 11, 2002, the Peruvian Hotel Society represents the leading hotel brands to promote the hospitality industry and quality of services as a basis to social and economic development in Peru. The association summons over 31 companies and 65 hotels, as well as 7,500 hotel rooms in national territory.

“In such a challenging time for the hospitality industry worldwide, the Peruvian Hotel Society is committed to the survival of tourism in our country, which now only reaches 26% of its capacity in comparison with 2019,” José Koechlin underlined. “We urgently need an extension from the Reactiva economic program managed by the Peruvian Government, until the production chain is reestablished in the next one or two years.” In addition to the current measures, José Koechlin emphasized the need  for other long-term initiatives such as a legal framework similar to the agrarian industry, allowing this sector to compete in the global market.

José Koechlin is founder and CEO of Inkaterra, pioneering brand in ecotourism and sustainable development in Peru since 1975. Acknowledged by United Nations as the world’s first ‘Climate Positive’ hotel brand, Inkaterra won the prestigious 2020 Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award (American Express Group), whilst also being acknowledged as the world’s third best hotel brand in the 2019 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. To promote travel experiences in Peru, José Koechlin co-produced Werner Herzog’s classic films Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972) and Fitzcarraldo (Best Director, Cannes Film Festival 1982), as well as Les Blank’s cult documentary, Burden of Dreams (1982).

Winner of the 2015 PURE Award for his Contribution to Experiential Travel, and considered by AACSB in its list of 100 Influential Global Leaders, José Koechlin is also Vice-Chairman of the Peruvian National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) and emeritus board member of Conservation International (Washington, D.C.).

VIAJES NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
VISITS INKATERRA MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO HOTEL

Food and travel writer Lucía Díaz Madurga and photographer Elías Alfageme from Spanish magazine Viajes National Geographic stayed at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel to explore its marvels at the foot of one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

“With a philosophy based on ecosystem restoration and the conservation of natural and cultural authenticity, with a strong focus on sustainability, the hotel has achieved the reforestation of every corner in its grounds,” says Díaz Madurga. “In its five hectares, 83 adobe villas are tucked away in the cloud forest among stone pathways, terraces and waterfalls surrounded by trees, native plants and birds… A privileged environment where travelers can enjoy bird calls at dawn, tropical rain and the surrounding mysticism at the gates of Machu Picchu.”

In addition to the lush gardens hosting the world’s largest native orchid collection (372 species) and 214 registered bird species – including the iconic Andean cock-of-the-rock and 18 hummingbird species –, Lucía Díaz Madurga praises Inkaterra’s Novo-Andean cuisine and its vast array of cocktails, as well as the spiritual experience provided by Unu Spa (“water” in Quechua) with its 100% natural botanical extracts, its freshwater ponds and the candle-lit Andean sauna.

Viajes National Geographic also highlights Inkaterra and AJE Group’s groundbreaking initiative to make Machu Picchu the first carbon-neutral Wonder of the World, through an innovative waste management strategy to achieve circular economy in Peru’s most iconic destination.
