Get tickets here for the world premiere of “Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru,” a fascinating journey through time to discover a culture that thrived in a mystical world. This sweeping exhibition spans 3,000 years across the ancient cultures of Peru, rivaled only by Ancient Egypt in longevity, and by the Roman Empire in engineering.

Opening Saturday, October 16, “Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru” is the largest exhibition to showcase Peru’s cultural legacy and extraordinary biodiversity. A groundbreaking event, produced by Inkaterra Asociación in alliance with the producers of the record-breaking “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs.”

This all-new, immersive museum experience will transport visitors from the cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere to the jewel of the Inca Empire: the city of Machu Picchu. The exhibition boasts a stunning selection of 192 artifacts from the Larco Museum – one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world.

Visitors will also enjoy the first-ever VR tour of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, designed with cutting-edge immersive technologies. “Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru is the most innovative way for welcoming travelers from all around the world to explore our many wonders”, says José Koechlin, head of Inkaterra Asociación and environmental partner to the exhibition.

THE GLASGOW DECLARATION:
INKATERRA PLEDGES TO CARBON-FREE TRAVEL

In preparation for COP26 to be held in November, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held two information sessions on the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. This commitment, developed by a collaborative group of leading organizations, is an urgent call for a decade of climate action in tourism.

Signatories of the Glasgow Declaration are committing to cut global tourism emissions by at least a half over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. In particular, each signatory will commit to deliver a climate action plan within 12 months of signing. Plans will be aligned with the proposed strategies for measurement, decarbonizing, regeneration, collaboration and financing to accelerate the travel industry’s ability to transform.

Ecotourism pioneer Inkaterra is among signatories committed to carbon-free travel. Founder and Chairman José Koechlin was a keynote speaker at the panel on the Glasgow Declaration, sharing his insight on Inkaterra’s initiative to make Machu Picchu the first carbon- neutral Wonder of the World.

Through a strategic alliance that brings together several key players to ensure a carbon-free future for Machu Picchu, Inkaterra joins efforts with the Municipality of Machu Picchu, AJE Group, and the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (SERNANP). Machu Picchu has become the first destination in Latin America to achieve a circular economy through the nurturing of one million trees across the Machu Picchu national reserve, and an innovative waste management strategy to advance a circular economy in Peru’s iconic destination.

Inkaterra was recently acknowledged by United Nations and GreenInitiative certification company as the first Climate Positive hotel brand in the world. By measuring Inkaterra’s carbon footprint and offset, GreenInitiative determines hotel operations are carbon negative or climate positive – meaning, any activity that furthers the achievement of net zero carbon emissions, providing an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. “This outstanding accomplishment is a validation of Inkaterra’s five-decade effort placing scientific research, biodiversity conservation and sustainability at the very core of our business,” states José Koechlin.
