Produced by Inkaterra Asociación in alliance with the curators of the record-breaking “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs”, this sweeping exhibition spans 3000 years across the ancient cultures of Peru, who are rivaled only by Ancient Egypt in longevity and by the Roman Empire in engineering.

The all-new, immersive museum experience to transport visitors from the cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere to the jewel of the Inca Empire – the city of Machu Picchu. They will walk among a stunning selection of 192 artifacts from royal tombs that include spectacular objects which belonged to noble Andean lords. The exhibition allows visitors to plunge into the Amazon rainforest and come face-to-face with one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world.

Additionally, visitors will also enjoy the first-ever VR tour around the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, designed with cutting-edge immersive technologies.

MACHU PICCHU COMMITTS TO THE GLOBAL COVENANT
OF MAYORS
FOR CLIMATE AND ENERGY

A strategic alliance brought together several key players to ensure a carbon-free future for Machu Picchu and turn the Historic Sanctuary into the first carbon neutral Wonder of the World.

A success story about the goals achieved when the public and private sectors work together, this initiative unites Inkaterra’s efforts with the Municipality of Machu Picchu, AJE Group, and the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (SERNANP). Several partners worked together on this great effort, including PROMPERU, the Ministry of Environment and the Peruvian Society of Adventure and Ecotourism Companies (APTAE), among others. With the support of the local community, this is the first destination in Latin America to achieve a circular economy through an innovative strategy for sustainable waste management.

For Machu Picchu’s certification, a collaboration with the certification company GreenInitiative was established. Machu Picchu is now competing with Palao (Pacific Islands) and the city of Valencia to be the first tourist destination in the world to receive such a recognition. GreenInitiative’s “Carbon Neutral” certification relies on multilateral mechanisms, allowing clients to meet the highest international standards and therefore gain international recognition of their efforts, and to have information for the operational management of their carbon emissions.

Machu Picchu is expected to meet the requirements necessary to achieve carbon neutral certification by July 2021. This commitment aims to reduce carbon emissions by 45% in 2030, and achieve zero net emissions, i.e. carbon neutrality, by 2050, in accordance with the Paris Agreement guidelines.

MARINA WORLD NEWSLETTER PROMOTES
SUSTAINABILITY
IN HARBOR MANAGEMENT

Inspired by insightful discussions with Inkaterra founder José Koechlin, marina expert Esteban Biondi discusses how sustainability is shaping the new fundamentals of harbor management in the Marine World newsletter (available here).

“Environmental, Social and Governance criteria was not part of the language when I started this; sustainability was not a high-profile concept; and “experiences” was not yet part of the vocabulary of hotel developers,” Biondi recalls. “However, when making presentations about the approach for planning sustainable marinas, I said things like: the best human resources for delivering authentic and memorable guest experiences are in the local community.”

Biondi is a consultant to Inkaterra’s most recent ecotourism project in Northern Peru – a hotel, condominium and surf & sail club, with a spectacular landscape of ancient sails.
