February 2021

In light of such a tumultuous year, we are humbled to share with you news that Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba has been recognized by Travel + Leisure – the largest and most trusted travel media brand in the United States – as one of the 500 best hotels in the world, as voted by the magazine’s discerning readers.

The March 2021 issue of Travel + Leisure will mark the return of the “T+L 500.” Each prestigious edition of this roster of properties — divided into eight geographic regions — will serve as a trusted resource for millions of enthusiastic travelers. Drawing on the past year’s “World’s Best Awards” survey (vote here for the upcoming 2021 edition), the magazine has compiled the top 500 hotels around the globe as a way of inspiring readers in the year to come.

Reopening March 15 with special offers available in our website, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba has been acknowledged by Travel + Leisure among the “Best Hotels in South America” several years running.

A rustic chic, hacienda-style hotel in Cusco’s Sacred Valley, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba features breathtaking views of the surrounding evergreen mountains and harvest fields, immersing guests in open space, serenity and relaxing solitude. Architecture and interiors are inspired on Cusco’s millenary tradition, whilst the Mayu Spa (‘River’ in Quechua), established next to the hacienda’s organic orchard and an enchanting peppertree forest, provides a spiritual and soothing experience enriched by Andean tradition.

Eager to welcome travelers who dream of exploring the vast diversity of Peru, we at Inkaterra are thrilled to be included on this distinguished list.

INKATERRA JOINS UNITED NATIONS’
ONE PLANET SUSTAINABLE TOURISM PROGRAMME

As announced at ITB Berlin’s panel discussion “Eliminate. Innovate. Circulate. – Strategies from the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative”, Inkaterra is one of the 26 new signatories to the pledge led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNTWO), in collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

The Initiative unites tourism businesses and organizations from every part of the global tourism value chain against plastic pollution, through the common goal of addressing the root causes of plastic pollution.

This Initiative was launched in January 2020 and now counts 46 signatories, illustrating how reducing plastic pollution in tourism remains a priority, despite the challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this sense, a circular economy for plastics is critical for the tourism sector to preserve and protect destinations and to recover responsibly from the current crisis. The diversity of the signatories highlights the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative’s potential to promote systemic solutions, which can be implemented locally and scaled up globally.

PASSION PASSPORT
CAPTURES PERUVIAN LANDSCAPES
IN GORGEOUS BLACK AND WHITE

Travel photographer Lauren Breedlove had Peru at the very top of her bucket list. Her fantastic journey across Inkaterra destinations – from the lush Amazon rainforest in Madre de Dios to the majestic heights of Machu Picchu – promised the opportunity of getting on camera the vivid spectrum of colors and vibrancy of Peru.

“Color seems to be synonymous with Peru,” writes Lauren. “It’s woven into the culture, the cuisine, and the landscape.” Once she got home, a struck of inspiration led her to edit her images in black and white, despite it “seemed   like a preposterous idea with the bounty of hues at my fingertips.”

“This series explores the impact and definition of color,” Lauren reflects “This is my attempt at highlighting Peru’s visual extravaganza in everyday life through cuisine, textiles, culture, landscape, and markets — void of surface color.” Here available, Lauren’s new collection of photos – gorgeous, dramatic and reminiscent of the work of legendary artists in the likes of Martín Chambi – manage to strip Peruvian landscapes down to their true essence.
