NEW VIDEO FEATURES INKATERRA GUIDES FIELD STATION

Directed by Danish filmmaker Morten Anderson, a new featurette showcases Inkaterra’s new property in the Amazon rainforest of Madre de Dios. Inkaterra Guides Field Station procures an enriching experience for researchers, students, volunteers and nature lovers, inviting all guests to explore the Peruvian Amazon through interactive excursions, inspired by conservation initiatives managed by NGO Inkaterra Asociación.

The short documentary was produced during the third edition of Momento, which gathered chefs, artists and scientists to explore traditional gastronomy, local cultures and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Peruvian Amazon.

We dedicate this feature to our beloved friend Elías León, Head of Explorer Guides at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Elías is portrayed in this heartfelt article by Sarah Erdman, former Senior Editor of National Geographic Expeditions. His contagious passion for nature, blessed with such a keen eye for birding and wildlife observation, will always inspire each member of our Inkaterra family.

ORCHID ARTIST ANGELA MIRRO
CONDUCTS WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN
IN MACHU PICCHU

As part of Inkaterra Asociación’s 13th Workshop on Environment, Biodiversity and Culture for children in Machu Picchu, Polo Ralph Lauren artist Angela Mirro conducted a workshop on drawing nature. The summer course, sponsored by Faber-Castell, shared with schoolchildren the ways in which art can help discover and conserve the natural world.

Angela Mirro has developed a career as a textile designer while focusing on botanical watercolor paintings of orchids and landscapes for over twenty years. “Orchids and their interconnection with the natural world needs to be seen, valued and protected. I hope my paintings, if even in a small way, can help increase conservation awareness,” Angela has declared. “The experience of painting orchids is energizing and magical. Their resilience and beauty is a testament to life. I paint orchids to connect with that force and to celebrate it.”

ROYAL GEOGRAPHIC FELLOW
PETER WILSON RIDES THE MISS TEXAS

Aiming to raise the profile of ‘a better planet through sustainable development’, Peter Wilson and Robing Dotten from Round Latin America flew to 23 different countries in a Robinson R66 helicopter.

Last stop in Peru was Cabo Blanco, where Peter and Robin explored the new Inkaterra project in Northern Peru, and went fishing onboard Ernest Hemingway’s iconic fishing boat, the Miss Texas. “Cabo Blanco was a very different experience to the Peru that Robin and I experienced when arriving at Puerto Maldonado… We were able to take a snap shot of your journey making a world class eco-product and service, out of a desert, a wonderful surfing beach and a special fishing spot with a glorious history,” Peter said.
