NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2019

Celebrating with all guests who voted for Inkaterra as third best hotel brand in Travel+Leisure’s 2019 World’s Best Awards, we are proud to premiere a new featurette on Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba and the chicha de jora experience. One of the preferred activities within hotel grounds, Inkaterra’s chichería shares the secrets behind the Incan ceremonial beverage, from handpicking dry maize to finally toasting with the brew produced by our travelers.

Directed by Danish filmmaker Morten Anderson and narrated by explorer guide Hiro Ayquipa, the short film portrays Inkaterra’s deep bond with Cusco’s Sacred Valley. Viewers will enjoy a taste of Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba’s traditional design and décor, its breathtaking views of surrounding mountains and harvest fields, its approach to the colors and flavors of regional gastronomy, and its vast array of excursions to honor the millenary culture of the Andes.

THE FUTURE OF ECOTOURISM:
CLARIN NEWSPAPER INTERVIEWS INKATERRA FOUNDER JOSÉ KOECHLIN

The largest print media in Argentina and member of the Latin American Newspaper Association, Clarín spoke with Inkaterra founder and CEO, José Koechlin, on the future of experiential travel, his role as co-producer for Werner Herzog’s classic films Aguirre: The Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo, and Inkaterra’s pioneering vision on ecotourism as a means towards sustainable development.

“There has been a shift of paradigm in the recent years. Short-term profit leads to the loss of biodiversity and local cultures. The Amazon is the most visible example, where logging, livestock and illegal mining are the main deforestation agents,” says José Koechlin to Clarín journalist Flavia Tomaello. “We have to be able to determine the economic value for the loss of biodiversity… Nowadays, natural resources are considered as capital goods. Our challenge is to consider conservation as a long-term investment. Biodiversity conservation can be a profitable endeavor, with a greater gain than extractive industries. Ecotourism is one of the most efficient ways to achieve this goal.” Click here to access the full interview.
