NEWSLETTER JUNE 2018

Inkaterra La Casona has been named the Best City Hotel in Central and South America in Travel + Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best Awards. The property also achieved 4th place in the Top 100 Hotels in the World, scoring 97.87.

The first boutique hotel in Cusco and first Relais & Châteaux property in Peru, Inkaterra La Casona had Spanish Conquistador Diego de Almagro and ‘Libertador’ Simón Bolívar among its illustrious guests. The 16th century manor house was harmoniously restored by Denise Koechlin throughout five years, reflecting the encounter of cultures and traditions across centuries. Surrounding the main patio, its eleven suites are provided with chimneys, heated floors and extra-large bathtubs. Its halls are decorated with colonial furniture, Pre-Columbian textiles and original murals.

“We are truly honored to have two of our properties acknowledged among the finest hotels in the world, and Inkaterra La Casona considered the best hotel in the region by the most discerning travelers,” said Inkaterra founder José Koechlin.

The results of the 23rd World’s Best Awards will be published in the August 2018 issue of Travel + Leisure and online at TravelandLeisure.com. Winners will be honored on July 24 during a special cocktail celebration in New York City.

CABO BLANCO CELEBRATES
REGATTA OF THE CENTURY

NGO Inkaterra Asociación sponsored the 2018 Regatta of the Century, a tradition that took place in Cabo Blanco on June 29 during the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Escorted by Ernest Hemingway’s legendary fishing boat Miss Texas, over thirty artisanal watercrafts sailed Peru’s tropical northern coast. Inkaterra has proposed to the Ministry of Culture the declaration of Cabo Blanco’s artisanal fishing as Living Cultural Landscape – first step to be named Intangible Cultural Patrimony by UNESCO.

The regatta was preceded by the Encounter of Peruvian Sails on June 26, as the artisanal watercrafts saluted the BAP Unión – training ship of the Peruvian Navy. The world’s second largest vessel sailed across the northern coast on its way to the international contest Velas Latinoamérica 2018, held in Guayaquil.
