NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2017

The renowned luxury travel and lifestyle magazine Condé Nast Traveler honored Inkaterra La Casona (Cusco) and Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, ranking both among ‘The Best Hotels in the World’ in the 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards. The only Peruvian hotels in the Top 50 list, the Inkaterra properties are listed in 14th and 15th position, respectively. The hotels also achieved second and third place in the ‘Top Hotels in South America’ category, confirming that both are perceived as the best hotels in Peru by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.

Additionally, three Inkaterra properties are mentioned in the ‘Top Resorts in South America’ list––Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba (Sacred Valley, Cusco), Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica and Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción (Madre de Dios).

“Conde Nast Traveler´s Readers honor us” stated Inkaterra founder and chairman, José Koechlin. “Having five of our properties among winners in such a prestigious contest is a celebration to ecotourism as a means for sustainable development, a concept pioneered 42 years ago when we opened our first lodge in the Peruvian Amazon.”

The 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards are the result of the votes of 300,000 magazine readers who submitted millions of ratings and tens of thousands of comments, sharing their recent travel experiences of the world’s cities, islands, hotels, resorts, cruise lines, airlines, and airports—good or bad. All winners will be celebrated in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler, as well as online at www.cntraveler.com/rca

THE BEST HOTELS IN THE WORLD & TOP HOTELS IN SOUTH AMERICA

INKATERRA LA CASONA
#14 (WORLD) / #2 (SOUTH AMERICA)

Cusco’s first boutique hotel, Inkaterra La Casona is established in the intimate Plaza de las Nazarenas, surrounded by cobblestoned streets. The 16th century manor house, which stands on the training grounds for an elite army of Incas, had Spanish Conquistador Diego de Almagro and ‘Libertador’ Simón Bolívar among illustrious guests. Harmoniously restored throughout five years to emphasize the city’s architectural heritage, the 11-suite building reflects the encounter of centuries-old traditions.

“Owners Denise and Joe Koechlin have fussed over every antique and craft-strewn square foot of the place, and exquisite pillars, retablos, and benches have been sourced from all over Peru, including Pre-Colombian textiles and murals,” asserts Condé Nast Traveler. “The excellent restaurant—don’t leave without trying the quinoa pancakes—delivers a generous helping of Andean hospitality.”

INKATERRA MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO HOTEL
#15 (WORLD) / #3 (SOUTH AMERICA)

A picturesque Andean village with terraced hills, waterfalls, stone pathways, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel comprehends 83 whitewashed adobe casitas tucked away in the cloud forest. Its award-winning Unu Spa, featuring natural products derived from local botanical extracts, combines classic nurturing with a mystical Andean approach for a spiritual, sensual and soothing experience. The first-class restaurant features stunning views of Vilcanota River, whilst sharing the secrets of Peruvian cuisine with a contemporary twist.

“But nature, not performance, is the real draw of this hotel,” says the Condé Nast Traveler staff writers. “Amid its 12-acre grounds are 214 identified bird species, including the golden-headed quetzal, and the world’s largest native orchid collection (372 species).”

TOP RESORTS IN SOUTH AMERICA

 INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZONICA (#6)

Selected by National Geographic Traveler among the world’s 25 best eco-lodges (2013), Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica has 35 wooden cabanas architecturally inspired by the Ese’Eja culture and built with native materials, in harmony with the environment. Established in the megadiverse Tambopata National Reserve (Madre de Dios), the eco-luxury lodge offers a varied selection of à-la-carte excursions including the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, with hanging bridges and platforms 100ft above the ground, delighting guests with a privileged view of the Amazon rainforest.

INKATERRA HACIENDA CONCEPCIÓN (#7)

One of the four Inkaterra properties that belong to National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción lays deep in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Sitting majestically on stilts, nineteen private cabanas are peppered around the property, while a six-room casa grande is defined by its high ceilings and rustic thatched roof.

Local explorer guides offer first-hand knowledge of wildlife in the rainforest through an astonishing selection of activities, such as the excursion to the nearby Lake Sandoval, a water mirror inhabited by howler monkeys, caimans and giant river otters.

INKATERRA HACIENDA URUBAMBA (#11)

Named by Condé Nast and Travel+Leisure among the best new hotels in the world, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba is immersed in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in-between Cusco and Machu Picchu. All 12 rooms in the Casa Hacienda and 24 stand-alone luxury casitas feature breathtaking views of gorgeous green mountains and harvest fields, immersing guests in open space, serenity and relaxing solitude. The architecture and interior design are inspired on Peru’s cultural history, with colonial furniture, authentic pre-Hispanic art and handcrafted woodwork adding to the hacienda’s local charm.
