NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2017

Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog will return to the dense and mysterious Amazonian jungle, backdrop for Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972) and Fitzcarraldo (1982), to guide the creation of 48 filmmakers. Following his practical workshop in Cuba, “Filming in Peru with Werner Herzog” will be the second filmmaking event produced by Black Factory Cinema in partnership with Inkaterra.

From May 1-11 2018, each participant will develop a short piece under Herzog’s guidance and supervision. The creative process will go from the conception of an idea to screenwriting, casting, location scouting, image and sound design, directing and editing. Werner Herzog will select the best short films for distribution at international festivals.

The practical workshop will be held in Peru, in the surroundings of the Tambopata Natural Reserve. Inkaterra Guides Field Station will host the event, where the Madre de Dios River and the exuberance of the untamable nature, so iconic to Herzog’s filmography, will be the landscape for this unique learning and creation experience with one of the most polemic and adventurous filmmakers in film history. Call for participants is opened until February 7th, 2018.

INKATERRA CASE STUDY FEATURED IN
HOTEL YEARBOOK 2018

The International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef-Bonn (Germany) has digitally published the Hotel Yearbook 2018 – Sustainable Hospitality, featuring a case study by José Koechlin and Gabriel Meseth on Inkaterra’s new conservation initiative through sustainable landscape corridors. “In order to improve connectivity among landscapes and ecosystems in the Amazon region, as well as land management and the reduction of mercury in water, Inkaterra Asociación NGO has proposed the creation of a 78,756ha sustainable landscape corridor off the Tambopata National Reserve,” states the essay.

Professor Dr. Willy Legrand, editor-in-chief, has summoned a range of views and opinions to reflect on the issues biological diversity faces nowadays, as well as the solutions and good practices encouraged by leading institutions in the hospitality industry. The Hotel Yearbook 2018 is now live and can be downloaded here.

INKATERRA-AJE GROUP AGREEMENT FOR
SUSTAINABLE MACHU PICCHU

Inkaterra and AJE Group (Peruvian family-owned beverage multinational producing in 23 countries) signed a strategic partnership to lead diverse sustainability initiatives in benefit of Machu Picchu’s cultural and natural heritage. After the donation of a waste compacting machine to process on a daily basis 14 tons of waste (essential to address Machu Picchu’s waste management crisis observed by UNESCO in 2016), a biodiesel production plant was installed at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.

The biodiesel plant processes burnt vegetable oil as to mitigate the use of fossil fuels and avoid spills into Vilcanota River, as one liter of burnt oil pollutes 1000 liters of water. “We aim to turn Machu Picchu into a global example of sustainability for all travel destinations before 2021, as part of Peru’s Bicentennial Plan,” said José Koechlin. Next step is waste management via an innovative strategy with no CO2 emissions.

NEW SPA TO OPEN IN 2018 AT

INKATERRA CABO BLANCO
RESTARTS CONSTRUCTION

Months after the El Niño Phenomenon’s impact over Northern Peru, Inkaterra Cabo Blanco restarted its construction plan aiming to open on summer 2019. Prioritizing harmony with the natural landscape and the use of surface in efficient ways, Inkaterra has continued building a 11520m3 rock wall across the property, avoiding the use of cement. The design of these stone platforms is inspired in pre-Hispanic architecture established in the Peruvian coast. Inkaterra is also growing native flora for a dry forest environment that will create an ancestral sense of place, aiming to entice the comeback of native biodiversity as practiced in other Inkaterra destinations.
