"New in 2003, the ATI Aceer Tambopata has the potential of becoming the area's most important research center. Almost opposite Cuzco Tambo Lodge (see later), it was built on the site of a 19th-century house formerly occupied by one of the first doctors to practice in this part of the Amazon. ATI retains parts of the original house while providing modern research facilities in the new construction. Although the modern accommodation is mainly for researchers, ATI can be visited by ecotourists who examine the small exhibit regarding local conservation issues, and attend lectures."
