The Inkaterra Eco-tip of the week iss:

A battery is a device that generates electric energy through a chemical process, when its
life ends it releases toxic substances that pollute any environment, air, ground and water.

Caution:
  • Do not mix new batteries with used batteries in machines, it reduces useful power life.
  • Do not leave batteries near children.
  • Do not burn or throw them in the toilet or garbage bin.
How to help:
  • Collect used batteries and take them to authorized centers or organized recycling campaigns – In Lima: Wong, Metro, Surco City Hall with the campaign “Ponte Pilas”.
  • Use rechargeable batteries or appliances that use alternative energy (Ex. Calculators with solar panels, motion sensor watches)
  • In communities of Inkaterra, batteries are mixed with concrete and used as a material in building maintenance works. Batteries must be covered with a coating that neutralizes and avoids filtration of toxic waste.
